@Marie the only reason I would do one is because I’m already dilating and have a very soft cervix- according to my ob
If you had a check at your last appt, I would skip this one. Especially with a doctor you're unfamiliar with, but you should do whatever makes you feel comfortable! :)
You might be surprised and like him! One of my favorite OBs is a male, but we really only get midwives for delivery unless it's a c-section or something medically intense.
One of my favorite midwives is a male. (I go to a place that have multiple) and I only like 2 midwives lol. So you may be surprised (they are my ob)
I am 38 + weeks and my female OB had to go on medical leave, so now I am with a male that I just met. The male OBs are just as professional and there should always be a nurse present when they go anywhere near private areas anyway. As long as your questions get answered and you feel comfortable in the end it won’t matter that he is a male. He does this everyday. Seeings multiple patients all day, doing pap smears, exams etc. He is trained in this field, and there probably isn’t anything he hasn’t seen or done before seeing you. Cervix check - my male OB said it’s not necessary. You could be 2 or 3 dilated and be the exact same in a week from now. How much you’re dilated means nothing and isn’t a good indicator of how soon you will deliver. It just gives you false hope. My advice is met this doctor, and don’t do the examination. That way you just get to know him, get your questions answered and can make sure you are fully comfortable with his capabilities of delivering your baby.
My OB is male and with my first baby I was extremely nervous as I’d never even had a dr down there let alone a male, but my OB is so knowledgeable and so personable That I went in to get my group B testing like nauseous and came out feeling more confident and comfortable that he would be the one delivering my little one, since then I have honestly preferred to have a male provider fill in when my OB is out of office!
Honestly my entire life I always had female doctors. I was extremely nervous to have a male OBGYN but I ended up with such a great doctor! I never thought I’d like a male OB but I do! I know that they’re there to do their job and I read up on his background, degrees, certifications etc. I always thought it was weird for a male to be interested in a job that has to do with the female body but there’s a lot of good male doctors out there and my doctor changed my perspective.
they have a female nurse in the room if they do checks of any kind, i’ve had a great experience w my male ob and i was extremely skeptical at first.
I switched OB at 32 weeks because mine was in an accident. I have a man now and surprisingly he is better than the woman, he listens better. I’ve had a cervical check and the strep b swab both done by him
I just had my 38 wk and declined cervical check. It really doesn't make a difference if you're dilated or not, until you're actually in labor. So if it's like my appt, he'll just listen to baby's heart and take a fundal measurement. Quick and simple!
