Ureaplasma

My husband and I have been TTC naturally with no luck for 15 months before we resorted to IVF. I have my first FET scheduled for next week. Last month, my doctor recommended a mock cycle to rule out any issues we may run into with the transfer (endometriosis, endometritis, EMMA/ALICE pathogen tests, etc.). My results came back negative for any inflammation, endometriosis and endometritis. The tests did, however, come back positive for group b strep and ureaplasma urealyticum. I was put on a series of antibiotics to fix these “bugs” and prep for my transfer. In the meantime, I did some research on the 2 strains. I found that ureaplasma urealyticum can cause infertility in both men and women, and that it can affect a male’s sperm parameters. Something my husband has dealt with in the past in relation to his sperm morphology. The fertility clinic told him to lay off caffeine, eat his vitamins, don’t soak in hot tubs and keep cycling to a minimum. He listened to their advice and we saw his parameters improved but not reach “normal” limits. Another symptom of ureaplasma urealyticum is recurrent BV. I noticed this would happen often during my ovulation window when my husband and I were trying. Month after month I would visit my GYN who would prescribe me antibiotics and send me on my way. After my lab came back positive, I asked my husband if he would do a lab to test for ureaplasma as well and he agreed. We just got his results back today… positive. I’m sitting here wondering if this had been our issue all along and if so, why weren’t we tested for this in the very beginning??? Has anyone ever tested positive for this, had it treated and gone on to conceive naturally?

Following this cause I'm also interested in an answer. I did an at-home test for vaginal microbiome when I started my IVF cycle and it came back positive for U.U. I've never had any symptom. I asked my doctor and she said that the link with infertility is not proved, and since I'm asymptomatic, she didn't see any reason to treat it. But I have the same doubt as you as we head into a FET next month...

@Vit Hey Vit - how did your FET go? I actually ended up pushing my doctor and we’re treating the UU. My husband tested positive for it too and was also treated. Retest coming at the end of the month.

Well done! The FET is gone well but I'm still thinking that I should test it again and so should my partner! Fingers crossed for you!

Hi! I am in the same position ttc for over 18 months and I bought a Ureaplasma test online as I saw so much about it effecting fertility so wanted to rule it out. Turns out I am positive so now taking antibiotics with my partner. I was wondering did you manage your clear your UU? I was completely asymptomatic apart from not being able to get pregnant X
