Maternity pay back to back

So I’m currently on maternity leave which is due to finish on 1st January. Me and my husband are planning on starting trying for baby number 2 - if we get pregnant straight away then I would be going back to work about 3 months pregnant. Would I still be entitled to maternity pay for my next baby? I know you have to earn so much or something?

It depends on your company policy I believe

It would completely depend on your companies policy, I’d recommend reading your contract or trying to get in touch with HR to ask the question. Personally, I have to be back at work for at least 6 months before I’m entitled to maternity benefits again

@Kiran I’m referring to statutory maternity pay - sorry should have said this

As long as you earn enough in the qualifying period, you'd get smp again, but it depends on company policy if it's enhanced pay

@Anna what’s classed as enough? And am I right in saying that the qualifying period is 15 weeks before baby is due (in other words 25 weeks pregnant?) x

You should have a look on the gov website it has a calculator and the most up to date info. When I was working mine out, I had to earn at least £123 a week for the 8 weeks before and including my 15th week before the due date (25 weeks). It included any bonuses and over time and will decide how much smp you get. Basically, if you earn under £123 you want more hours arranged before your 17th week of pregnancy for the 8 weeks x

@Anna thanks so much! I didn’t realise there was a calculator x

I am due in a few weeks and getting married in May then starting to try again in June as I need to go back for at least 6 months for the next mat leave to kick in so i would contact your HR department ☺️

@Becky hi Becky, is that statutory? Because your workplace doesn’t determine whether you’re entitled to statutory or not. I know I won’t qualify for my companies enhanced maternity pay as you need to be at least 12 months to qualify for that x
