Urine infections in third trimester

Hello fellow pregnant mummies I’ve just been to the out of hours GP and found out I have a UTI and have been given 7 days of antibiotics. I’ve never had a UTI before but I just knew I was going way more than just the usual reason of being pregnant. Anyway on my way out the Gp mentioned that this can unfortunately be a common reoccurrence once baby gets even bigger. I still have 5 weeks to go and honestly it’s got me all nervous that once I’ve finished these tablets it’s only a matter of time before I’m needing them again. It’s been the most awful feeling of pain when I wee and the feeling of desperately rushing to the bathroom, I definitely don’t want another. Also I don’t fancy being on antibiotics again and again. Has anyone else had any experience with this issue and if so how did it turn out and how did you go on being on meds all the time? I’m probably looking into what he said way too much but I’d just rather be prepared.

I had a UTI around 12 weeks, finished a course of antibiotics and haven’t had a recurrence. Currently 37 weeks. I’ve also heard it’s common in pregnancy, but doesn’t mean everyone will have recurrent UTIs!

Unfortunately UTI's are common and can uncomfortable. Fortunately they are quick to prescribe antibiotics and usually clears up fast after starting the course. Now you have experienced one, you will likely know the signs faster this time and can get seen faster! I know within 1 toilet visit if Iv got one haha

I’m prone to UTIs when I’m pregnant and I was taking antibiotics the majority of my pregnancy. In the end they put me on a daily dose until i delivered so it didn’t keep coming back. Baby was fine and they stopped after birth!

I’ve had a yeast infection for over a month now Ik it’s not uti

Yep I’ve had a UTI and thrush. I definitely find if I stay off the sugar I get less UTI’s and thrush so that’s been helping me! Not nice at all though, I hope you feel better soon. Hopefully it won’t come back after 7 days of antibiotics

I had 4 courses of antibiotics almost back to back for UTI in my last pregnancy which wasn’t pleasant. You can’t totally avoid them but the best things you can do are to keep well hydrated and to wear loose clothing/cotton underwear and of course just maintaining really good hygiene. They’re unpleasant but luckily the treatment usually works fairly quickly, and if you get them treated then they aren’t dangerous to you or baby. Hopefully this will be your only one ☝️

@Laura I been taking medicine for yeast and was like why is this not going away one of the main things I crave is sugary food and sweets just started yesterday to lay off the sugar I wonder why doctors didnt tell me

@Cindy I hate to say it but doctors know naff all about diet/natural ways to cure these types of things they just give us antibiotics or thrush treatment! I definitely notice UTIS/thrush gets worse when I eat sugar!

@Laura yes the yeast bacteria just thrives and grows on sugar you are right. This is why I love this app because sometimes it’s not all about medical advice, it’s the helpful hints and tips from real life people. Thanks for responding

Also Yeats infection learns to resist medicine as long as it’s getting fed sugar
