Vent

Hello my lovelies , I am just her to vent and seek advise as a mum. I work in early childhood sector and have recently made redundant. I worked in admin and because of low occupancy they have to let go of me , there is no position in my current center but they have offered me a educator position 25 min drive. We have bills to pay and I need a job like now we have recently bought a house and we will be moving in exactly the same week my work ends 😭 I am devastated heart broken and have so much fear and anxiety. My little is just over 2 yrs . He doesn’t like long car drive my last resort is screentime, I can’t imagine putting screen on for 25 min morning and another 25 in the evening. I do have a week left till I leave please tell me which options looks best . 1. Find a job around for a bit of lower pay but 5 min drive . 2 . Stick to same company and drive 25 min each way possible a maternity 2IC role to look at in late sep. Any opinion would be appreciated.

It depends on the redundancy payment and if it still applies if you take the role at the other center. If money is tight right now I would do option 2 and you can always look for a different position while you’re there. There is no way of knowing how long it will take to find a new job. It seems the issue is having to drive 25mins each way with LO in the car. Can you just keep LO in the center closest to you and drive the rest of the way after drop off?

@Ivona I am less than 1 year in business and I don’t think so I have any redundancy pay. I have some hours of AL that I would use to sustain till next job . I did have a thought of doing that to keep LO in the same centre. I could have shift that could start 6:30 in the morning so have to work with my partner to add in with extra help. @Katie woow thank you for sharing your story I definitely feel so motivated thinking if you can travel for 1.5 each way I can do it too.

Have you tried mirrors so bubs can see you when you drive? Get him to pick a special car toy in the morning for the journey?

@Sharnee hey sharnee he is in forward facing car seat so he can see me when I drive. We did have mirror when he was younger but I can give it a try again. Thank you
