Annual leave

Hi all. Please help me to understand something. If i reduce my contracted hours, will the annual leave entitlement still be a similar amount in DAYS or do i actually lose some annual leave in days (please dont explain in hours) i understand its pro rata but want to understand it in days please. So the annual leave i have booked now on more hours i could lose some or does it still work out the same and get to keep it?

Last year I was entitled to 277.5 hours which works out to 37 days AL (7 weeks plus 2 days AL ).. i reduced my hours this year to 15 hours a week which now my entitlement is 112.5 hours, which works out as 15 days AL (7 weeks plus 1 day).. so you miss out on days but still works out the same.. if that makes sense?

You definitely loose some however try and figure it all out as I’m returning from maternity leave next week and reducing my hours to 30. It worked out better to reduce my hours to 30 and take 30 hours a week annual leave from next week than doing full time till the end of August and taking full time weeks as it I got more time off but obviously at a reduced rate. I know you don’t want to work it out in hours but when your changing half way through the holiday year you will Need to work it out in hours as you may have like so many full days then 3 hours

As others have said whilst it looks like you lose days/hours it works out the same as you'd need to use less days/hours in order to get the same amount of time off. E.g right now if you want a week off you need to use 37.5hrs, if you reduce to say 23hrs you'd only need to use 23hrs to get a whole week off.

I only ever take my annual leave of as weeks not days. I still get my 7 weeks + a few days! But instead of taking and getting paid 37.5 hours a week I take & get paid my new hours so 23 hours/week. Also I do shifts and 8 a month is barely anything I’ve just had a week and a bit off cause that’s how my rota fell. So I actually forget to book annual leave cause I don’t feel like I need it for a break!

Thank you all for replying, you all understood what i said too ☺️ So i’m thinking of reducing my hours After my 3 weeks AL i’ve added onto the end of my mat leave (end of august 2024) so i’m getting paid the higher amount for that leave. But i dont want to lose the others i have booked which are half terms. Will it put me in that crappy situation that i will due to change of hours after taking some on different hours?

I extended my maternity leave by 3 weeks at full time hours once I went back in the May I still had 4 weeks to book with my new hours.

Depends if the annual leave you are using now is from this year or last year… If this year, they’ll probably do a calculation for the whole year, based on 5 months full time, 7 months part time… so say your on 33 days full time… you’d get 14 days until end of Aug and whatever entitled to part time
