Pill

This is my second baby. After my first in 2022 I was told I could only take mini pill while breastfeeding. Today at GP check he said I can take the normal pill I used to take (Yasmin) even while breastfeeding which I was told I couldn’t do in 22. GP said advice has changed and it’s fine now. Leaflet in pill box says not recommended for bf. What would you do? Not sure who to listen to. Is it safe or not 😬

When I rang the national breast feeding helpline they recommended this group... you can message and a pharmacist will reply.

Desogestrel (mini pill) is the only pill you can take while BF. I am a pharmacy technician ☺️

@Elena is that because it’s not safe for baby?

I believe it’s more to do with breast milk supply from the research I’ve done on it.

@Elena thank you. The GP said the advice has been updated. If it doesn’t affect my supply I assume I would still be able to take it? Obviously if it starts to affect it I could change it?

Some guidance is saying ok after 6 weeks pp so maybe it has it’s not very clear what I’m looking at. I would suggest trialling it and seeing what happens to your milk.

@Elena that’s what he said, it’s changed now and fine after 6 weeks. How long would it take to affect supply do you know? Thank you 😊

Incognito, I am now in the same position as you. I have the Yasmin pill ready to start taking, but I am still breastfeeding. Did you take it and did it affect your milk supply? Thanks in advance. Leah x
