How does your company work out Maternity?

Does your company offer different brackets etc So for example things like how long you’ve been with the company what position you hold and all other aspects (if any) ? I’m just intrigued to know what other companies offer. I just found out my company offers different brackets of maternity pay. One of those is 5 months full pay, HOWEVER I’m not entitled to that 😕 Did not have a clue that companies offer different brackets of pay, it’s not really fairly done either

No brackets at my workplace. Check your employment contract and length of service. As long as you’ve been there a year, at mine, before going on maternity it’s a standard agreement. The length is the same for everyone just the pay differs based on your pay grade. So everyone gets 6 months paid, 3 months half pay, 3 months not paid but your grade and salary will only change the amount of income.

Mine it statutory or enhanced. You can get enhanced if you’ve worked there for 3 years and it’s 6 months full pay. But the caveat is you have to return to work for a year after otherwise you have to pay the money back

I think this is fairly normal practice, in the same way that some employees get more days of holiday or more days of paid sick pay if they’ve worked somewhere longer. It’s a way of rewarding loyalty and long service, I don’t have a problem with it.

@Sarah i did check the contract after what i heard and it basically says those who are in higher positions get (the option of) longer maternity and get the higher bracket. To me that doesn’t seem fair

@Sophie that’s your preference. To me a holiday and giving birth are two entirely different kettle of fish.

We’ll have to agree to disagree 😊 I guess if you don’t like it, you have the power of being able to leave and go and work for a company with a different policy

Mine does! It's entirely up to them how they want to do any enhanced maternity pay tbh. They can base it on level in the company, length of service, or whatever they want. At my company it's: - less than 3 years, 100% salary for 6 weeks then 60% for 33 weeks - 4-5 years 100% for 6 weeks then 80% for 33 weeks - 5+ years, 100% salary for 39 weeks I've had two kids and I got the 3 year and the 5 year deal. It's been super helpful! I used to work in the Tesco head office and that was based on level in the company and senior head office folk got way more than anyone in a shop. It's pretty normal!

@Caroline that’s actually pretty decent. Mine do 100% for 6 weeks and I think it’s 40% for 33 weeks 🙄 I just think with the cost of living and everything increasing we could’ve done with the extra money Over 2yrs it’s 5 months 100% pay for 39 weeks and 5yrs or more it’s 7 months 100% pay plus extension 🙄😂

Yours is still pretty good! Most companies just give SMP which is 90% for 6 weeks rand then an appalling £180ish a week for 33 weeks 😩
