I just want to make sure I am doing it right! When our baby is born does my husband call his work and get him added? We have to wait until he is born right? I just want to make sure I don’t make a mistake and then have a lack of coverage. We have Kaiser

You can’t add baby until after they are born. Usually you have 30 days from their birth to get them added onto your insurance because birth is considered a life event. If you don’t do it within 30 days, you will have to wait until the next open enrollment time to add baby. HR at your husbands work should be able to provide details on who to contact to add baby to insurance. Also the hospital should give you some sort of form you can provide to the insurance as verification that your child was born.

Yes exactly what Kelsey said and any care you get within those 30 days is covered under your insurance but yes you need to officially add baby within 30 days.

Like mentioned above, you have time! Our insurance gives us 90 days to get a newborn enrolled. All the appointments the baby will have within that time will be covered and insurance payments will be backdated.

Kaiser gives you 30 days after baby is born. I called my insurance rep within days and they sent me forms to fill out and I believe they needed the social security number. I think HR can help with this too.
