Really depends on there job

If you’re from the uk you won’t get SMP if your partner is off as only one off you will get maternity pay. But his job might not give him that long off or agree to pay for it. I read you can do shared maternity, but that would require you to go to work x

Shared parental leave is a thing, you’d need to look into it as not sure how it would work if someone is unemployed. Just wondering why he’d need to take a year off if you’re unemployed anyway?
