Might be a daft question....

My maternity leave runs out in a few weeks but I've already decided I'm not going back to my previous job and handed in my resignation a few weeks ago. I have enough accrued holidays to cover my notice period. HR have asked if i want to come off maternity leave early to split the holiday pay between this month and next as I'm currently in the unpaid stage of maternity leave. Might be a daft question but is there any disadvantage to stopping my maternity leave early and doing it this way? Instead of continuing maternity leave as planned and then receiving all the money in a lump sum payment at the end of August?

Depends what you prefer, some of the money now or all of the money later

Not 100% sure but I would also check with HR you haven’t got to pay back any of your maternity leave pay if you aren’t returning. Your HR advisor should be able to advise you what’s best ☺️

I was just on statutory maternity pay so nothing to pay back luckily

I guess it would just mean shortening your maternity leave! So if your not going to another job then I guess it makes no difference. So there basically asking do you want to stop your maternity leave and start your annual leave/notice now and then get some of that pay in this month and rest of it next month x

You would probably get taxed less and therefore get paid more

@KB if i come off maternity leave early or the other way round?

Early I think she means as of your being paid I your notice in two pays rather than one full pay
