Uk maternity leave pay

So just trying to figure this out whilst considering changing jobs but knowing I may want to start TTC in the next year. Do you get statutory maternity pay on top of what your employer gives in regular wages? So my current employer says for the first 13 weeks you get 100% wages, and then 50% for the next 26 weeks. Do you then additionally get the SMP on top of both of these?

As far as I’m aware nope. Unless you’ve got the worlds nicest employer 😂 they’re paying you enhanced maternity pay, so no you won’t get SMP aswell. It’s just for employees whose bosses are tight bastards 🥲 I think this job sounds pretty nice!

Ahh ok, When it says on gov that you get 90% of average wages for the rest of the time, and the employer says 50% for the remainder aren't they cutting the smp to a lower rate?

90% is only for 6 weeks, and then you get either £184 a week or 90% of your wages (whichever is lower) for the next 33 weeks. So say you usually earn £2000 a month, your boss will be paying you £1000 instead, which is a fair bit more than SMP x

Hope that makes sense! I was confused at first, had to get HR to sit me down and explain it fully!

Yes that makes sense, thank you so much! X
