NHSP shifts

Hello everyone! I wonder if anyone can answer my question... I am a nurse working for the NHS and I have decided to take 12 month of mat leave with the salary evenly distributed over 9 month (couldn't do it over 12 months apparently). Am I able to work NHSP shifts during the last 3 months of my maternity leave year? The maternity contact says I am not allowed to work NHSP/agency during paid maternity leave, as this could end up in some of the salary to be deducted. What is not clear is if this rule applies for the last 3 months, when I will receive £0 salary. I tried to speak with my manager and her manager too but they have no clue. The NHSP people have no clue either and HR is not replying to my email 😒 Help please, if anyone knows the answer 🙏🏼 TIA 😊

Is NHSP bank shifts? If so I did on my unpaid section of mat leave 😊

@Leah that's right, NHSP is the new fancy name for bank shifts. Ah that's great to know! I assume they didn't take any of your Maternity pay back?

I asked this to my local NHSP branch in my trust. They said you can for the unpaid part x

Don’t forget you can claim SMP from NHSP if you meet the criteria. So you get your mat pay from your substantive post and SMP from NHSP at the same time. Very helpful!

If you do any work (except self employed) whilst you are getting SMO paid then you will stop your SMP. Once you go onto no pay you can do paid work

You can do your split your salary over 12 months, I would get back in contact with HR x

@Monique thank you but unfortunately I'm already nearly at the end of my 12 months maternity leave. So I've already received all the pay...Good to know for next time though 😃
