Contraception

Hi, I had my 6 week check today (at 7weeks). The GP advised I try to have sex and wanted a plan for contraception. I hadn’t actually thought about that yet. I can only have the mini pill due to breastfeeding. However, I’m not sure how I feel about going back on it due to how it made me feel emotionally (like I didn’t like my husband) and physically (unpredictable periods & thinking I was pregnant all the time & low sex drive) before we TTC, especially now with the added hormones of exclusively breastfeeding. Did anyone go onto this and feel okay? I know we aren’t great at remembering to use condoms but don’t want to be pregnant again yet.

I’m on the mini pill - also ebf and started at 6 weeks. Can you try a different mini pill from the one you were on before to see if this helps?? I’m quite sensitive to contraception so have definitely experienced what you have in the past!! I’m on cerelle (I think it’s called something different now) and feel ok but it did make me have a false period within days of starting for about 5 days. Also you’re right to be careful you’ll be super fertile having just had a baby. Xx

I hate the idea of taking hormones whilst BF so I'm just going to use condoms. Most contraception never agreed with me, I felt better than ever when we were TTC

@Laura well I was on one that agreed with me for ages, then suddenly the brand got changed and then I kept getting given a different one everytime so it’s possible that was the issue. When I had the implant I was fine for the first two, then the third was awful so had to have it out. Definitely worth baring In mind, I’m going to speak to my husband and see what he thinks x

@Bee same here, I felt amazing when I stopped my contraception then felt even better when pregnant and still feel great now tbh. We might just have to get into the habit of condoms. It’s been almost 10years since we have used condoms except one trial of being off the pill where we kept forgetting to use them!

I plan to potentially use cycles one I regulate again too, but definitely once we're out of Irish twin territory 😅

Husband came to me this morning and told me he didn’t think it was fair for me to go on hormonal contraception again after so many years of being on it and now EBF, he suggested condoms and cycle tracking so that’s what we are going to do. Now to brace myself to consider sex again 😬
