Episiotomy & Forcep problems

Had anyone else had Episiotomy & Forcep delivery and having problems with controlling bowels? I can tell when i need a wee, but i can’t stop it if it comes. Im aware this is a pelvic floor thing and to keep doing exercises, im guessing this is pretty normal? As for bowels, i cant tell when i need to go, or stop it if it comes. This has led me to soil myself on a number of occasions. This is upsetting me quite abit and not sure on what to do.

Hey lovely! I went through EXACTLY this and was mortified 😭 honestly I was scouring the internet trying to see if anyone else had it and couldn’t find anything anywhere! I was so sure that something had been permanently damaged. But time has been my best friend with this. I don’t know when you gave birth but I’m now two weeks PP and I definitely have better control now. I was also on lactilose which didn’t help the situation so I stopped that, and we discovered that the antibiotics I was on also gave me an upset stomach so maybe see if anything you’re taking is contributing as it helped massively when I came off both of those! Just don’t feel alone! Birth really messes up our bodies but they’re incredible things and it will get better ❤️

So sorry to hear that. I completely understand how upset you must feel as that's exactly what I am going through atm. Had my little one a week ago. I am able to control my urine but not bowels, had so many accidents. Have spoken to the midwife and she referred me to a pelvic floor specialist in the hospital as she doesn't think it's normal which made me even more scarred. Though I have to say I think it has improved slightly the last couple of days. I only take a small amount of lactilose, 5ml in the morning, and another 5ml if needed after lunch. I am trying to do my pelvic floor excercises but everything is still quite painful. When did you have your baby?

Don’t worry it’s not just you! I also had forcep and episiotomy and *sorry to be graphic* literally pooped myself running up the stairs, and it was everywhere. I’m still traumatised by it, and everytime I’m out walking I’m terrified it will happen again. I’m now 4.5 weeks postpartum and slowly getting the feeling of my pelvic floors back. Thank god for my carpet cleaner and the fact that no one was home at the time because I was mortified. Burst into tears when my husband returned. My consultant at the time said it’s totally normal but if I still don’t have the ability to control it after 6 weeks, to ask the GP to refer to physio. Honestly the things us women have to go through. Xxxx

Hello! I had both episiotomy and forceps. I was also given lactulose in the hospital and stopped it straight away as soon as I realised it was making me poop with no control! Also so embarrassing! Popping after an episiotomy is not that bad - have a look at what you’re taking to see if that can help. X

Sorry that you're experiencing this. Ask for a referral to a women's health physio - even if it has started to improve by your 6/8 week check up, ask your GP to refer you then, or I asked the community midwife to refer me. The physio will assess your pelvic floor health, can give you specific exercises to do, and then follow up to see improvements. I don't know how long waiting times are, but everyone should see a women's health physio after birth! Hope you see improvements soon xx

I had a forceps delivery, with episiotomy and a second degree tear. I am 4 weeks post partum and am going through the same thing. It was terrifying for me to loose these sensations honestly. I couldn't even do the kegel exercices for the first 3 weeks as I literally did not have any control. It's starting to come back now which is reassuring. Life with a baby has been so overwhelming I didn't even get to see a physio yet, but as girls said this would be the way to go. Good luck, we're all in this together!
