Contraception

Looking for insights please… So our little girl is 11 months old and we’ve always said that we would wait a good few years between having anymore and thats if we do have any more (pregnancy and first 6 months PP were really hard for us) The thing is our sex life is taking a hit because neither of us like condoms (we bought a pack of the ultra thin nude ones and they don’t fit and actually came off during) but i always said hormonal contraceptives made me feel out of control of my body. I’ve now not used hormonal contraception since 2019. We have been using condoms but neither of us are enjoying it as much as we know we do and it’s now ruining it for us🥲 What are people’s experiences with the implant? That’s the one i’m looking at as i’ve never had it before.

I'm had the implant for about 7 months now and not had a period or any issues at all. It's been great. You do get a little swelling where it's implanted for a week but then it's fine.

I actually don’t know a single person that got on with the implant personally 🤣. I had it for a year and ended up begging them to take it out. I bled every single day for the whole year. They put me on the pill alongside it for 3 months to try and stop it but it didn’t work. Also made me fat & a raging angry psychopath. My mood swings were horrendous. One day I’d be depressed the next I’d flip out at the smallest thing. Was literally the worst year of my life

@Amelia this is my worry. I’ve had a few people know of people who’s mental health really deteriorated on the implant. But it is my last and only option. My body rejected the coil and cause recurring infections. I can’t take the pill due to migraines and the injection was likely the cause of precancerous cells at the age of 18 x

Were you on the combined pill or mini pill when you were having migraines? My friend had to swap from the combined to the mini pill due to it causing migraines and she’s been absolutely fine since so thought it might be worth mentioning 😊

How about male contraceptive pill?

@Samantha i had both… the mini pill could be an option again tbh. My thought process was that i often forget to eat.. let alone take the pill🤦🏼‍♀️😂

@Karita is this now rolled out? I didn’t even think this was an option yet x

I’m on the implant and this is my 3rd one! I’ve never had any issues with it! I don’t have periods, your arm can bruise and we sore for a few days after it’s in but other than that no issues xx

I've heard such bad things about the implant from friends, I wouldn't go near it! Lots of people having bleeds for months, just don't think it's worth the risk!!

Ahh, actually I just Googled. It’s not available in the UK. I was just brainstorming. Sorry

I had the implant 3 times j bled constant for a year each time and got them removed. Also made me put on 4 stone. I have the depo injection now x
