Paternity Leave

Haye moms! My husband and I are trying to get an idea of how much time he’ll need off after birth. I’m due late October and it’ll be our first child. How long did your partners take off work?🙂

My husband gets 3 months of leave. He took 6 weeks when the baby first arrived and he’s taking the other 6 weeks when she’s 5 months. That worked out really well for us. 6 weeks gave me enough time to feel confident alone with baby for the entire day.

If his job lets him take the time and it’s something y’all can do financially I would take all the time lol but 6 weeks is ideal.

@Kiersa @lillie So he doesn’t get paternity leave he’d have to get FMLA and for some reason they’re telling him he needs to take it all at once. Which is not how I thought FMLA worked. I know people who have it for medical reasons and just call in to work wherever so idk why he’d have to take it all at once then afterwards he wouldn’t have it anymore? 🤨 But anyways that’s why we’re trying to see how long we think he’ll need to be off so we’re able to save up.

Usually FMLA is up to 12 weeks, mine is. It depends on how the doc says you need it and your case since it’s you and not really him he probably do need to take it all at once. I think 6 to 8 weeks is ideal. It’s the same time they give women the okay to go back to work.

What’s messed up is my husband gets a great paternity leave, but my job doesn’t provide a maternity leave 🤣 I have FMLA and took out a short term disability policy to cover mine. So I get 8 since I’ll have a c section. My husband gets 12 weeks, and he gets to break it up. So he’ll do 4 weeks at first, and will take the remaining 8 whenever

Well that’s good it worked out in the end but that’s crazy I’ve never heard of somewhere not having maternity leave unless it’s a small business @Lauren
