It’s not painful at all! Just a little swap. I think pap smears are more uncomfortable.

It’s really not bad. I didn’t even really notice it

I think it’s super uncomfortable but not painful.

I was expecting way worse! It’s not bad at all

Same as any other pap smear

I got mine done yesterday and she was a little rough, I had trouble going to the bathroom until last night. (This is the only time it’s ever hurt like that, so I think it was just my provider)

@Ashley the only thing that I could think as to why it was rough is our cervix tilts while we are pregnant and yours may have been tilted just right she had to lift it. Im sorry it hurt 😔 that sucks

My midwife had me do it myself in the bathroom and said to just barely insert the swab into my vagina and then run it across the rectum but not inside. So it didn’t hurt at all. Made me wonder why other practitioners don’t just let you do it yourself?

Okay I’m going to go in with the mind set that it’s easier than a pap…and I don’t personally think paps hurt. Just a little pressure.

@Liz it's actually to ensure you're swabbing in the correct places without contamination. Strep b is no joke for a newborn. I've never heard of a provider having you do it yourself

My nurse midwife said I can do it on my own if I wanted. Idk if that an option for you. But it doesn’t hurt to ask

It didn't hurt, was just uncomfortable cuz its a dry swab.. honestly the cervical check is worse than the test lol

My provider had me do mine myself. Mine was a little painful because with the big belly in the way, i somehow managed to stab myself in the taint with it. Other than that, it was fine. Was just hard to navigate on my own. (But I’m also having a hard time shaving, so it might just be a me problem) haha

@Sami oh she didn’t see anything, she went in blind without a speculum. And wasn’t slow or gentle, literally just shoved it in and said done. Every time I had a swab done they always used a speculum and were gentle. This wasn’t my first this pregnancy. Just a new civilian OB as I’m new to the area and always had military docs doing my work ups.
