Baby name meaning

I don’t know if I’m overthinking or not, but my baby girl is due in November and my partner and I have been thinking up names. We’re pretty set on Winona as a first name, with Winnie as a nickname. What I’m struggling with is middle names. At first and up until last week I was sure her name would be Winona Mae, because is flows well/is cute/was my great grandmother’s name. But I looked up the meaning last week and saw that it means “bitter”. My first thought was that I have been going to therapy to release bitterness, I’m not sure that I’d want to name my daughter that. But it still is so cute. 😅 I don’t know, maybe I’m being silly. But I definitely want my kids names to mean good things, like my son Phoenix Wilder. Thoughts?

I can completely relate to this! You’re not overthinking this but I would do what your heart is telling you the most. If the meaning isn’t really that big a deal stick with it. I was madly in love with the name Rue for my daughter until I found out it means “regret”. I couldn’t bring myself to use it

I think Winona Mae is so sweet and goes with your son's name perfectly! Personally name meanings are not the reason I choose a name so it wouldn't bother me, but if it bothers you I understand!

I totally understand. For both kids, I prioritized the name meaning because I didn't want to give them anything I didn't fully love. We both vetoed loads of names due to meanings. It's obviously up to you, as most folks aren't necessarily going to know or look anything up.

I personally believe a name does affect the persons personality so I wouldn’t use it but to each their own
