Funded hours

I’m returning to work 19th October which is when my daughter will also be starting nursery and I’ve read I will not be entitled to the funded hours until January as I’m not going back before 30th Sep. So this means I have to pay full price until Jan because I’m returning to work just over 2 weeks after the cut off? Just trying to get my head around it , it doesn’t seem fair as she will be going to nursery for that term 🧐

Yep unfortunately that’s the case. I decided to change my return to work date to 30th September for that reason and use accrued leave up to November so I don’t return properly until then.

It's depends on when your baby turns 9 months,my LG turns 9 months on 14th August so we get the funded 15 hours when she starts nursery in October xx

If it's after August, then you won't get the funded hours until January xx

Works on terms xx

We’re the same, and unless I’ve misunderstood you can’t get the 20% top up from the government until you qualify for the 15 hours so got to wait fort that til January.

@Nikki she turns 9 months on 6th August but it’s based on when you return back to work unfortunately

@Kate oh no I didn’t know that!

@Kate I’m pretty sure almost everyone is eligible for the tax free childcare? I had it before my son qualified for any funded hours.

There’s a cut off for a reason, they can’t just change the rules here and there for people who think it’s not fair. The eligibility applies from the term after they turn the eligible age.

@N 💞 she is 9 months so she is the eligible age. It’s because I return to work in October instead of September. This post is just to clarify what I already know 😬. I don’t think it’s well known that’s it’s not for all 9 month olds. It depends also on when you return to work 👍🏻

@Jemma yes I may now consider this as it’s only 19 days x

Sorry yes this is right the reason I get it is because I am back on payroll with work on 29th August but am on holiday till I go back into work on 7th xx

You will still be able to get the tax free childcare benefit even if you miss the cut off x

I could be completely wrong but I’m pretty sure you will still qualify if your baby is turning 9 months in August you just have to apply for the code closer to the time as I think you have to apply 31 days before going back to work

Your child needs to be going to a childcare setting by a specific date to get that terms funding. I think it’s late September but I’m not sure.

@N 💞 thanks for replying, I’ll look at it again and see if I can figure it out

Hopefully I’ve got it wrong, I’m going to look at it again and see if I can figure it out 🤞

@Kate I went back in March, have been using the tax free top up since but obvs won’t get the 15 hours until September x
