Ivf weight gain

I recently started IVF and went through one cycle of stims, will go for FET next month. I was a regular at strength training and HIIT but doc advised to keep it easy during stims. Now, I have had my period and ovaries are still swollen but I have a significant weight gain still. I know I should not bother about this much but it would be good to atleast try and maintain a healthy weight instead of it rapidly increasing till I get the FET done. Any tips? Maybe diet changes or workouts which are safe right now?

Hi Padma, are you sure you don’t have OHSS? I had a lot of weight gain with my stim Cycle because of this. They cancelled my fresh transfer and once I got my period all the weight come off as was all fluids from the hormones

My ovaries did look swollen but I only got around 11 follicles during the stim cycle. My periods are done now but still have weight gain from that cycle.

So you had your period after the collection? Things should calm down. I have gained weight though with the meds as I did a few rounds of OI prior. I haven’t lost it as I don’t want to do strenuous gym and walking/ diet hasn’t been enough for much change

Yeah same I will have the FET next month so don’t want to put any strain on body with heavy exercises. I think I just need to wait and put my focus on staying calm.

Hey Padma! Same thought as Lauren - You may want to get yourself checked for OHSS even though you had 11 follicles. Stay as hydrated as possible. Regarding the exercise routine, I did yoga and walking, which helped me tremendously to help maintain weight. No strength training, please. Just a suggestion - if you still feel your ovaries are swollen, it might be worth waiting a month more before FET. That way, you have given your body enough time to heal and reduce inflammation. I did the same, and it was totally worth it. Sending baby dust your way, mama 💕

Thanks Shilpa! Will get it checked.

I don’t have any symptoms of OHSS and have a good appetite as well…. Just confused at the moment

@Padma Okay, that's good then!

@Padma heya . I was the same as you . I loved training and was fit and maintained a good weight . I put on a alot of weight quite quickly with ivf . Some due to hormones , some due to maybe comfort eating and not training like I used to. Here’s the thing at my heaviest which feels huge to me .. I got pregnant .. producing and putting high levels of estrogen in your body makes you gain weight . Even between rounds i went on a calorie deficit and trained everyday …. I literally gained a kilo 😂 but like I said I also got pregnant. 1 st trimester is exhausting but hoping to resume my normal training second trimester so I don’t feel like a complete whale anymore or at least if I must let it be a fit strong one 😂 It’s shit and makes you feel even worse but it’s worth it so don’t be hard on yourself or your body it’s doing a lot 💕

Hey @Bex , thanks for sharing this 😃 hope everything falls into place for me too 🤞🏻😊

Hi Padma! Same here had my stims and retrieval 3 weeks back, FET next month, weight gain is normal - it should come back to your normal weight in a while. The medicines, and sudden change in workout style could lead up to it, but the doctors here recommend to not stress about it.

Thanks Ayushi! Wish you the best for your FET next month!

I did fertility treatments for 3 years. I gained 15-20lbs in the 3 years. My doc made sure to check for other reasons but said all the hormones I'm taking caused it. The hormones really messed me up.
