Weight loss on pill post partum?

I had my 6 week check up today with the GP and have been prescribed the mini pill (progesterone). I've never been on this pill before. I explained how I have PCOS and gained alot of weight in pregnancy, close to 8 stone. I feel horrendous and don't want to put any more weight on. I'm not in a rush for the weight to drop off, I'd rather it come off slow and steady, but has anyone had any experience with this pill and weight?

I was on the mini pill for around 10 years maybe longer, I had no issues with weight but once off it it took years for my periods to go back to normal and 7 years to conceive, I’m not sure if this pill affected my fertility but I won’t be going back on any contraceptive pills xx

@Jade I'd rather not be on anything as I wasn't on anything before I fell pregnant for a long time. I'm not looking forward to it but I have PCOS and due to the weight gain my symptoms are out of control 🫤

I gained 10 pounds on the mini pill right at the beginning, but that was it.

Oh so I suppose if it’s helpful for pcos it’s worth exploring and testing it, I was always ok on the mini pill and gained no weight however I always worried that my issues afterwards were caused by being on the pill for so long however I have no evidence to back that it’s just what I thought xxx

I was on a POP only pill pre pregnancy and went back on it post pregnancy. I didn’t have weight gain with it, just bad mood swings and migraines. I’m off it completely now.

I've not taken up the mini pill too because I'm worried about weight gain (but I also have PPD and I didn't think the risk of mood swings ontop was a good idea). I gained about a stone from the combined pill over time and even with exercise and a crazy low callorie diet I struggled to loose the weight until I came off of it and then I lost a stone at which point I then fell pregnant, but I have since lost 2 stone doing nothing other then breast feeding as I eat loads (taking advantage of the fact breast feeding uses quiet a lot of callories) . I'm still about 3 stone above where I used to sit for years before I went on the pill which I doubt I will ever get to but I'm not sure what I will do once I stop breast feeding.

@Jade thanks for sharing! My doctor wanted me to take mini pill but were hoping to be pregnant again when baby turns 1 so not taking it.

@Jacqueline yep like I said that’s only my experience, I do think it contributed to the fact that I couldn’t get pregnant for so long - I was referred for ivf in the end and they said I had unexplained infertility, I then naturally got pregnant but it did take so long that I now think the pill impacted massively upon my fertility xx

I for one won’t be going on anything again, or at least until I have decided I don’t want anymore children xx
