Zofran insurance limitations?

The only thing that keeps me from vomiting every meal is Zofran / ondansetron. The bottle says I can take 1 dissolving pill every 6 hours as needed. So most days I've taken 2 in 1 day because my nausea is so bad. I ran out and ordered a refill, which got rejected. Apparently my insurance (blue cross blue shield) has a limit of 21 pills per 23 days. Not even 1 pill a day! So I have been throwing up every day waiting for the 23 day mark. I am SO irritated that I can't get the help I need even though I'm following the prescribed amount! Has this happened to anyone else?

Has your OB put in for another refill? Sometimes they can push it through and change the dates!

The same thing happened to me!!! Try calling your prescriber, or you may just have to wait :/ we had to call the insurance first and then the prescriber to get me a 30 day supply (before I had a one week supply). It’s such a pain in the butt. I had to throw up 9 times in 6 hours and couldn’t hold anything down because of this. American healthcare is awful.

@Nadine it's seriously the worst!! I understand drug regulation, but this rule makes no sense. I'm just a pregnant mama trying to hold down food and water 😩 thanks for the tip - I'm going to ask my doctor!

I’d see if your doctor could up your dose. I take 8mg zofran. A lot better than taking two 4mg.

@Alyssa literally!!! Like are we asking too much to just be able to drink and eat!? 😭 it’s ridiculous.
