I dont like it either! You could suggest Nanny or Nonnie or Gammy

My grandmother HATED Mammy. She found it to be derogatory and racist. Which it was when it was a common name. Disparaging and Offensive. (formerly in the southern United States) a Black woman engaged to take care of white children or as a servant to a white family.

My MIL and FIL go by Grammy and Grampy since my parents ate closer and have already become known as Grandma and Grandpa. When I was a kid, it was just Grandma (last name) or Grandpa (last name), but my family was kind of formal. I get the dislike of Mammy though. It might be a regional thing but I'm in the western US and have never heard that as a nickname. I'm only familiar with it in the derogatory use.

I don’t like it whatsoever!

@Amanda yea we are in mid west and she’s the only one who insists on being called that. My mom is called “Bubby” and my dad his grandpa is called “Grumpo” (he’s always got a chip on his shoulder. I grew up with fun names for my grandparents: Nana & Papa on my moms side & Nona & Pompo on my dads side.

Awh! Those are cute. My niece had something similar with her grandpa on her mom's side. She called him "Grumpa". Same reason, haha.
