Taking time off work

For first round IVF, when would anyone recommend taking some time off? I have saved up quite a bit of annual leave and work also allow 2 weeks worth of hours off for fertility but wondering when I’m likely to need it most?

I just took a few days off around egg collection and that was it but I have a work from home job! All depends on your job and what suits you mentally x

I would second taking some days off around egg collection. I was sore for a couple of days after. It's a bit difficult to book in advance, I ended up needing a few more days before taking the trigger shot so none of my dates ended up perfect- I think egg collection was a week later than planned in the end. I had told work what was going on and they were supportive which made it easier chopping and changing my days around. Depending on the job it might be helpful to book some of the scan days when they check egg progress off to just give yourself one less thing to worry about. I was off between egg collection up to and including transfer day but went back to work after that because it helped distract through the 2WW. I was able to plan my shifts as well so I timed it so I wouldn't be in on test day which gave me some time to process after the first transfer wasn't successful. Best of luck 🤗

@Abbi thank you, did you find it was ok leading up to egg collection to work? (Other than the frequent appointments?)

@Rachel thank you, this is very helpful :) I’ll definitely take off around egg collection as that sounds like the time I’ll need to recover. I’m going to tell work once I know the start date, they do allow flexibility with things like this. I’m just in 2 minds whether to take off a couple of weeks just to focus on the treatment but then I might need more days later on, depending on the outcome x

Yeah I found it ok, work were flexible with going for appointments etc. I didn’t have loads to be honest. It kept my mind busy and “normal”. X

I was really uncomfortable after egg retrieval as each sac (or whatever they are called) fills up with water when the eggs been removed so think I had about a week off for that. But other than that I think it was better to be working and keeping busy so you don't keep thinking about what's going on
