Woof, I asked this in another group and it ignited a fire šŸ˜‚ be ready for a lot of opinions. Iā€™m having a boy, my husband is circumcised and does not want to do it to our son. Heā€™s so adamant itā€™s cruel. We are not religious and I lead with facts and science. I cannot find any reason to cut my boy. It is an ā€œelectiveā€ surgery and the AAP does not say to do it. On top of that, we are the only country in the world who does it to the capacity we do and that is a little jarring. Europe, AUS, Canada donā€™t even do it to the capacity we do. If you teach him to care for it, he will be fine and even if it hurts to do later we believe itā€™s HIS body HIS choice not ours. We donā€™t do it to female, the skin wouldnā€™t be there if it wasnā€™t supposed to be, itā€™s just a hygiene thing and not enough data to say its ā€œsaferā€ or better for health. If it was medically better for them, why wouldnā€™t the AAP recommend and why is it called an elective surgery are where I get hung up

@Taylor mind sharing your post? Would love to see the other mamas comments. I am also against it, just a preference, I dont mind spending the extra time caring for it and teaching him how to do the same when he is older.

Yes it was in the moms in their 30s group Iā€™ll find it for you! I also went on Reddit and found a TON of people saying they didnā€™t (way more on here were saying they were and a lot was based on looks which ew). I found more comfort reading those posts and interesting data from other countries

I decided against it for same reasons by previous commenter with my first son and doing the same with this boy! My husband wasnā€™t sure about it and still isnā€™t but idc Iā€™m not putting my newborn baby through that just over looks! Iā€™ve heard itā€™s becoming less and less common in the US!

I voted yes but my husband (cut) says absolutely not, no purpose. I let him make this decision but if/when my son asks when heā€™s older.,, he can go talk to his dad šŸ˜

Lol @Lauren

@Lauren Iā€™ll be doing the same lol husband is way more adamant than I was! After all he has one so I only know so much

Culturally speaking we do not do it and therefore my son was not circumcised. I did not receive any judgement for it.

Please please please watch this video if youā€™re thinking about circumcising šŸ™šŸ¼ https://youtu.be/Ceht-3xu84I?si=ziDmH3OpoPDrnUE2

I left the decision up to my husband for our first. He decided to do it and then cried the entire time baby was gone and had a meltdown when baby came back crying. Then he freaked about baby having adhesions. Even though pediatrician said it was pretty common and just to Vaseline and pull them back, it took to around the 1yr appt for my husband to not obsess about baby's penis. Jump to present, with another boy on the way and I told him again, it's his decision. He says we are doing it again because...how will we explain to one kid that he is and the other he's not.

Our first 3 were. His born 2001, 2003, and mine 2007. That how things were. We're not doing it this time. When you know better, do better.

I have 3 boys. First one I had when I was just 15, it was very different then and it was pretty standard and I also wasnā€™t given options. I had no idea I had options being that young. So it was kinda just the norm and done. After that not only did I want my kids to match lol, I left it up to the father. I donā€™t have a penis, how could I make that choice when I donā€™t know one way or the other whether Iā€™d want to be circumcised or not.

We didnā€™t do it - thereā€™s no need for an elective surgery on a baby.

@Janae - what do you mean by when you know better, do better? Did something happen with one of your boys that made you choose otherwise this time around?

It's genital mutilation. A person should not have that forced upon them. There is no legitimate medical reason for the procedure in almost every case. It's painful trauma for a new baby.

Yeah these posts unfortunately VERY quickly get out of hand. I wish it was just people explaining their own reasoning for what they did with their children but it never is. Anyway, we did. We don't regret it. Everything was fine. My husband is, and that's what we felt was best. My honest recommendation is to look up the pros and cons from different varying sources and also consider the opinion of the father if he is in the picture.

@Heidi this is the video I watched! It REALLY helped me
