Tube flushing before IVF

Hi everyone, My partner and I have seen a private consultant as we have been trying for over 2 years now and I am 41. We had all our checks and both of us are in very good shape and should be able to conceive. Now the consultant has straight away suggested IVF however I know my tubes have not been checked for any blockages. I have heard about people how have had their tubes flushed and then were able to get pregnant. I asked later the lady at the clinic about this and she told me that flushing would not fix a blockage hence they did not suggest this. But looking online suggests differently. Does anyone have any experience with this? Obviously tube flushing is a lot cheaper… so I’m worried that the clinic is just trying to get as much as possible out of us.

I had my tubes flushed and checked if they were blocked before IVF, (they weren’t) if they are blocked then it can stop you getting pregnant. It made no difference to us unfortunately

Yes exactly this is what I thought so I don’t understand why our clinic is going straight for IVF

They have not suggested it because they make their money from IVF. Hate to be a cynic but that's the case. Your GP should refer you for fertility testing and treatment which could well involve an HSG which is the test you're talking about. Whilst it is designed to be a diagnostic test, there are sometimes therapeutic benefits when the tubes are blocked and just putting the dye in to test is enough to unblock them

I had this done after being referred by my gp for fertility testing. They weren’t blocked so we then went through with the ivf. Definitely worth checking I’d say xx

Ok thank you I had the feeling it was something like that. Thank you very much for the advice! ☺️

If you’re considering extras re explorative procedures, I’d suggest looking into a hysteroscopy. As well as finding/removing any growths in your uterus which would impact pregnancy, for me i was recommended it as I have some stenosis in my cervix which no one spotted before we got the point of fresh embryo transfer. It meant that they couldn’t insert the catheter when they came to place the embryo but this could also have been impacting our ability to conceive naturally. Hysteroscopy involves dilating the cervix so this should help us with our next stage but I just wish I’d know about this beforehand. In Greece (where my partner is from) and lots of other counties this procedure is done before any other IVF treatment so, one to consider for sure before you start IVF if you don’t want an unexpected delay mid process!

I just had my tubes flushed today , I am hoping that it helps with TTC now , they scan results showed there was no blockages; polyps or fibolds . So I would defo suggest you getting this done before IVF. The reason why my doctor wanted me to have done because I have had 3x failed IUI All the best and let us know how you get on 🙏🏽🤞🏽 xxx
