Also, like anything, every person is different. I shouldn’t be put off the coil because of one persons experience but I am 🙃 there will be many people out there who love it. Same with the depo and the pill / implant. Not everything suits everyone x
@Amy Really appreciate you taking your time out to reply to my post, thank you I do feel reassured that you have not experienced any weight or bone issues and I know most contraception methods have a small risk of cancer… but in a way the positives outweigh the negatives. I already have two kids, a boy (3yrs) and a girl (2 months) so I’m not in any rush for more children at the moment, I am considering to get the injections for about a year or two then switch the natural planning anyway obviously depending on my situation then… Do you take the shots every 3 months? Because I read a few other posts where people get 12 month shots
Also worth considering with the injection if you want anymore children - it can take up to a year and a half to wear off and for your fertility levels to return to normal and make tracking ovulation very hard afterwards.
@Tanith does that depend on how many doses you take? If I take it short term will it still have the same impact?
Depends on the person I guess that’s the maximum. I was on it since I was 19 - 31 with 2 breaks in between. My periods returned within four months, it took about 9 months to get pregnant but I sadly had a miscarriage but I had fertility issues. It then took me a further 7 months to get pregnant again. As I said in my message for me personally, that’s the only downside of the depo injection. The downtime if you do want a child, you’d have to come off the depo a while before you wanted to try to get your body back to normal x

Yes it’s believed even a few doses can take months to wear off
I was on it from 19 (I’m 33) and have just had the shot again last week. I have no issues with bone health. Years ago they used to recommend taking a break after 2 years to recover but now they don’t. I had zero weight gain, no periods and I’ve had the cervical cancer jab as a teenager & is only a “slight” risk for both cervical / breast. Never had IUD or implant but doctor did tell me to get the coil because it’s long term… I was put off because it didn’t agree with one of my best friends and as a result of being in so much pain and a long wait listing to get it removed - she removed it herself .. do not recommend. I was also told by the doctor there’s a 6-9 month wait in my area just to have it fitted so I would have needed to get the depo anyway 🤷♀️ Pill doesn’t agree with me, I turn into a psycho 😂 What I would say is, compared to other methods, if you do want more children you can’t get pregnant straight away when you come off the depo it can take months so bare that in mind x
