Moving

I’m a single mom wanting to move out of state with my family, however, my son’s dad is what holds me back. I worry about how angry he’ll be when I tell him. I know that eventually we’ll get the hang of it all and have a regular visitation schedule but it’s still so so difficult. Has anyone else moved states and can share their experience? Or even people who haven’t moved, can you share your thoughts? And yes, our custody rights allow me to move.

It’s great that you’re able to move outta state with his custody rights and all.👌

Different perspective from the kid of divorced parents. Having my parents living far apart was very difficult for me because there was zero continuity between homes. Everything was unfamiliar, I had no friends where my dad lived since it was so far away, and I had to take breaks from my hobbies and extracurriculars because he was too far away for me to continue them on his custody time. I was a kid who thrived on routines so every time I went back between parents I was utterly dysregulated and a mess for a while during a readjustment period. It held me back in my extracurriculars and badly impacted my academics when I’d come back from breaks. Now you know your situation and your kid best, maybe your kid is more adaptable than I was, but I know it was so much harder for me as a kid and I think you deserve to hear that perspective before you make your choice.

You're very lucky. My soon to be ex husband decided for me that I could never move out of state with our son. Because he'd do some not so nice things to me if I did that ever. But once we split he left 2 different times to 2 different states without so much as a goodbye or an effort to see our son before he left. My son or any of his other kids (he has 2 with 2 other women but he says now that supposedly he has a fourth out there from when he was really young) And then comes back and wants to play the loving daddy part again. He's such a hateful person. He's extremely controlling. And unfortunately I have to share my sweet baby with him. I'm forever grateful for my son, I just wish everyday I had never had him with my ex. I truly wish you the best momma I really hope you get it figured out and everything works out for you and your sweet baby ❤️

Well I was a child of this arrangement. I personally didn’t like my dad so it was nice for me. But if your child does, it’ll probably suck. Also you guys are gonna have to work out who’s paying for plane tickets or driving all that way
