For all PA moms

Does anyone know how the process goes for getting sole custody of their own child of the dad has been an absentee parent? My husband wants to adopt my daughter as his and I’m pretty sure I have to obtain sole custody first. Right now there is no custody arrangement and never has been. I’ve been the primary caregiver for my daughter since she was born and she’s 11 now.

Girl don’t worry, if you been the primary caregiver and done all you can for your girl since she was a baby I don’t think they wouldn’t grant you that. But I’ve never been thru it that’s just my opinion. The father ain’t there for her YOU are and she will get the chance to actually be a daughter to one WHO IS THERE blood or not. Again just my opinion. Hope it goes well.

@Cocoabear24 thank you!!!

I’m actually going thru the same. It actually a process. No matter where he at you gotta notify him of your intent, publish it on a newsletter, file the forms, serve him with the copies of the forms, and then some more stuff to do after that. My child’s father has been absent from her life since she was 2 once he saw my husband in the picture he disappeared. And she’s 14 now.

@Nickky oh goodness. I’m trying to make this as easy as possible. If I obtain sole custody, do you think ill still have to notify him of the adoption. He’s not on her birth certificate either

I don’t know what the process may be since his name isn’t in the birth certificate but call family court they answer questions on the phone
