Adult Children of Emotionally Immature Parents

I've been reading this lately. Y'all. I'm learning so much about my relationship with my mother, and how to heal from our past. Highly recommend

Omg I just saw this book this weekend!! I’m gonna start listening to it. I don’t have a great relationship with my mother and I’m hoping this book will give me insight

It’s excellent, as a mental health therapist I use it with a lot of my clients.

@Samantha it's definitely helping me understand why my own mother was the way she was, still is that way, and seems incapable of change (because she is). It's upsetting, but a relief at the same time, to get the insights and be able to take a breath and relieve myself of some of the guilt from feeling like I had some sort of part in it, while in reality, it was far out of my control.

My therapist suggested that I read it. I haven’t gotten to it yet, but I’m glad to hear good things. I’m currently in the middle of blood and ash so I guess when I finish that I will start it

@Amrita I'm in therapy, but not often enough, so I looked into it to help myself in the mean time, because in my sessions, my issues with my mother always come up, even when that's pretty distanced from the issues at hand

@Catherine I'm not incredibly far into it yet and I already like it a lot!

My husband desperately needs to read this book 😑one of my good friends from college said it changed her life

@Anna I've been talking to my boyfriend about it because he's interested in psychological topics but hates reading, so I'm hoping some of my chatting might help lol. His parents are much more emotionally mature than mine though

It's on my list but haven't gotten to it yet

@Jessica will his listen on audible?

I read that a while ago. I went no contact with my parents. I do not regret it.

@Harrynetta did you go no contact before or after reading??

@Rachel you absolutely should!

@Harrynetta I've gone nc with my mother before but always give in because I have a 14 year old sister who I don't want to stop talking to :(

@Samantha before. Then I sought a therapist, and she validated my need to go no contact. I blocked my mother on mobile/cellphone. My whole family is in Ireland, and I'm in the usa so it's actually easier for me to go no contact.

@Jessica yeah its hard as all my sisters are still there, and some still live with her. One of my sisters lives in her own blissful ignorant bubble and refuses to see a tree for a tree.
