Ovulating - plus-size TTC

Just want to know if anyone has been through something similar. I’m 20 stone. Struggling to conceive. . Had lots of tests and only thing doctors said was I didn’t ovulate on cycle day 21 when I had a blood test so they don’t think I do ovulate. . . But couldn’t I just ovulate late? My cycles are longer than normal, more like 40ish days. But I haven’t ever had a positive ovulation test at home tbf …. Just feel a bit stuck on what to do.

My friend was in this exact situation. I’m sorry you don’t think you’re ovulating, it can be so stressful! Is there a reason you can’t lose weight? If you’ve never had a positive test why don’t you concentrate on eating healthier and try some exercise like walking? I know this might sound harsh to hear and I really don’t want it to come across like that, but my friend lost a lot of weight, made the sacrifices and she got pregnant with twins!!! No medication at all xx

I’m happy to lose weight. I’ve currently lost 4 stone already for this reason, but to get help from a fertility clinic it’s like 10 stone which is pretty mega and will take me a long time. I’m Not getting any younger yknow. Just wanted to know if anyone had any other advice from being in the same position or to help ovulate.

Yeah I know the feeling trying to get help! Good on you for the 4 stone loss! I honestly believe you won’t need their help - if they’re telling you you need to lose another 10 stone before they’ll help, I bet you’ll be pregnant before you need the help! I hope so anyway. How long have you been TTC? Xx

Have you ovulation tested throughout your whole cycles? You absolutely can ovulate later. I have pcos and this time I ovulated cd31 and got pregnant, it was similar with my first. Have you looked into if you maybe have pcos? Myo-inositol is a supplement recommended for people with pcos trying to conceive (though anyone can take it). I took it both times and think it helped. Also women ovulate about 14 days before their period so if a 40 day cycle I'd expect ovulation around cd26.

Thank you. . I have yeah but I’ve been trying for 2 years now so some cycle I haven’t because it’s just hard and defeating to keep up … I do have PCOS and been taking maca root as someone said that was good for ovulation. But I have heard a lot about myo-inositol so I’ll get that too. Thanks for the maths haha I think that too but he was just like yeah you’re not ovulating. Go lose weight and then we can medicate you to ovulate 😢

If you’re having periods you are ovulating. A person typically has their period 10-16 days after ovulation, so you can count back to see when your (rough) ovulation date is

@Amy this isn't entirely true. Women can have anovulatory cycles and bleed like a period even though it isn't technically a period. https://uk.clearblue.com/fertility/anovulation

@Tanya yes, that’s rare though, especially to have anovulatory cycles consecutively or frequently. My point was: if the poster is having regular(ish) periods then she is ovulating. She mentioned her cycles are longer so she is ovulating, just later in the cycle. Incognito, I’ve just had a thought - when I had my blood tests my doctor advised me to book the test for the time in my cycle that I think I ovulate. So for many women that would be day 21, but for you it would be day 30 (for example).
