Conceiving - Is it best to take an ovulation test before trying to conceive?

My husband and I are going to start trying to conceive soon, we will be first time parents. And I was wondering, would it increase my chances of conceiving if I use an ovulation test before hand to ensure that I'm ovulating? What is everyone's experience? Are there other options to ensure optimal results? Thank you so much ladies! ❤️🙏🏻

@Syd Thank you so much Syd! I truly appreciate your response very much 😊🙏🏻 I am trying my best to get my body ready and figured it wouldn't hurt to be more sure of where my body is at before trying

I never did with either of my pregnancies. I think you can become too focused on it and it can cause stress. I was counting dates on the calendar with my first, and that was stressful enough. I did have a rough idea of when I would be ovulating with this pregnancy, and that was enough. I would say if you're trying for a while and have no luck, then maybe start using ovulating tests. If you're currently on contraception, it can take a while for your body to sort itself too, so just be aware of that!

If you have a 28-day cycle, most ovulation predictors online will give you a good window. If you test for ovulation, you may miss some of the window to conceive as your fertile window begins before ovulation and ends shortly after ovulation. So don't expect to get pregnant in the first month (or couple of months) while you figure out ovulation.

Just have sex everyday to every 4 days. You don’t need ovulation tests but it could help just to know your cycle. My peaks were very short but it helped me to know when to have sex more often than not but sperm lasts 5 days so it needs to be up there waiting so you shouldn’t just have sex on peak or ovulation day for best results

We tried using them for a few months with our first and we felt it only made things more stressful , we stopped using them and focussing on it so much and then it happened. Didn’t use them second time around although I was much more in tune with my cycle after my first. Good luck!

We tried for 6 months with no luck and the first month we used clear blue ovulation tests, we fell pregnant. Unfortunately it ended in miscarriage. When we tried again it took us a year to fall pregnant, even using the tests so although it helps, it doesn't always make it any easier.
