Would you allow your child to attend a funeral? 😔

My daughter is 8 years old and recently lost her grandad; They were extremely close, best mates and she’s so broken he’s gone. I’d never usually second guess this decision but I want to give her the decision on whether she’d like to come to his funeral. Is this acceptable 💔

I think you know what’s best for your child and can make a suitable judgement. No one else knows how your daughter would deal with it any better than you. X

If there's an option for her then yes definitely discuss with her if she wants to go.... explain what will happen and when and if she has any questions. A first funeral is something that you remember forever. She may choose to just go to the wake afterwards? Offer her lots of options. So sorry for your loss 💕

I took my then 1.5 to a funeral of someone in my old village (kind of village where everyone knew everyone) last year and took her to my gramps funeral couple of weeks ago. I wouldn't not take her, if she had been older then I would have given her the option

Thank you everyone. Appreciate your advice 🫶🏼

As others have said, it’s entirely your call as you know your daughter best. I personally think it’s a good opportunity to discuss things revolving around death and to see her grandfather off. Ask if she has any questions and keep an eye on her after to see how she’s handling it, if you feel she needs to step out of the service or something then support her accordingly and what not.
