First fertility appointment

Hi! I have PCOS and have been TTC for 2 years. Next week I have my first fertility appointment. We’re not really looking for IVF at the moment, but would be open to IUI. What are your thoughts on IUI vs IVF? Thanks everyone! 🤗

Try IUI first! The chances aren’t as high with IUI, but it’s cheaper and less invasive. IUI didn’t work for me (we tried 2 rounds) and we ended up doing IVF, but I know people who were successful with IUI.

They’ll just discuss options with you & want to know more about your medical history. They may very well suggest ovulation induction to begin with

The doctor would go over the options and run tests to see what is the best option for you. Thats what my doctor did. Currently, I am on my first IUI cycle. My doctor wants me to do 2 IUIs and if they fail, then we already have our ivf appt scheduled for aug. 28th. IUIs are less invasive and less medications compared to IVF. Also, the procedure is very quick and painless. Hope all goes well at your appt. Keep us updated!

I've done two IUIs, and both times I conceived! My son is now just about two and a half (from my first IUI) and I'm 21 weeks pregnant with my daughter (from my second IUI). Since you have PCOS, ask for letrozole as it's more effective in PCOS patients than clomid. Also discuss using Metformin (you'll take this till about 12 weeks pregnant, can reduce risk of miscarriage as well as cause ovulation). A trigger shot will also be used to time your IUI. IUI success rate is much lower than IVF, but it's less invasive and more cost effective, so I think it's worth trying a few times before jumping to IVF if you don't have a reason to go right to IVF.

@Grace you just gave me hope because im currently on the letrozole iui and this will be my first iui!

@Patrice wishing you all the baby dust and success! I have several friends who also all conceived through IUI! Not always on their first try, so don't give up hope quickly, but some (including me) it did work first try 💖

I did 7 rounds of Clomid which I found horrendous. My ovulation was really sporadic and I wasn’t monitored. Then moved to IUI with injectable gonadotropins and we conceived on the 3rd try with twins! So there are definitely options before IVF if you have PCOS.

Hey guys! Thank you so so much for everyone who commented 🤗 I guess I’m just really scared of starting this journey with medication or more intense treatments, but all your experiences really helped me and gave me a little bit of hope. My partner still hasn’t had any exams or anything, so I think we’re going to do that during the appointment and they might tell us after what treatment they think would suit us. We’re really open to possible IUIs, so we will see! Congratulations to who was able to conceive and baby dust to everyone 💖✨✨

Its worth checking your tubes are open and his sperm count. Presuming your doctor will run through this with you. Id definitely try letrazol and metformin first prior to ivf. We did letrazol (2.5mg) with tracked cycle on both pregnancies. Ive a 20mt old and due my second in august! Good luck and baby dust to you!

Hey , how long did you wait for an appointment after being referred? I was referred in April and I’m still waiting to get an appointment
