Food shaming! "Eat everything on your plate or you'll be punished"

Beating or any violence for punishment

Parentification

@Elizabeth thank you for sharing! I’m sorry you had to go through these traumas, if you don’t mind sharing, did you ever go to therapy or find any kind of help?

Massive portions of food which I was told I had to finish by my mum, also my dad stealing food off my plate telling me I didn't need it as I was fat, being smacked when naughty and having my comforter thrown in the bin when I was naughty

@Glennie there was a lot more in my childhood that I'm determined not to pass on to my baby boy, and I haven't yet had any official therapy despite being on waitlists for years (covid didn't help but it was already a while before this) I'm now priority for local NHS services, being a postpartum mum, but after some assessments it's clear it's not just a postpartum issue. I'm starting some therapy now, but I've been trying self help resources for years on and off, I'm not fully out of the situation yet so things get better, then worse, etc. I'm just glad baby boy is too young and I'm protecting him, and hopefully we'll be out soon. A huge part of working through things in therapy is letting yourself feel things, where I'd always shut it down to cope, so it's very draining but hopefully rewarding <3

@YazmynJade being forced to eat and then having them turn around and call you fat/pig/dustbin is so traumatic and wrecks your relationship with food. I'm determined to teach my baby boy to have a healthy relationship with food (and other people)

@Elizabeth that's exactly what I went through and I will never ever allow it to happen to my children. If anyone ever forces them to finish their plate or says anything about how much they eat they won't be part of their lives. They'll have a healthy relationship with food and know that if they don't want it don't like it have had enough that's okay you don't need to force it down
