Hi Moms,

I’m curious when during your TTC journey did you seriously start considering seeking fertility testing? Last year Feb my husband and I decided to stop trying to prevent pregnancy. During the summer I started tracking ovulation, but it took a few months to get into routine with using the test strips. Since Feb, I cannot say that we had the timing right every month and there has been at least 3/4 months where we had things going on during the fertile window so those months were write offs. That being said, our first was conceived completely unplanned three years ago, so it’s wild that you can accidentally make a baby however when trying it seems to be a challenge. I’m turning 33 this year, and although not “old”, fertility does start declining after 30 so I’m wondering if there’s biologically that could be an issue. OR, maybe it’s related to my husband? I’m eager for another baby and to give our toddler a sibling so I don’t want to keep trying IF there is anything preventing us from getting pregnant. I know there are couples out there that have been trying for years, but I’m starting to feel a bit discouraged. Should I be more patient with the process?

I say start getting really aggressive with trying. And if in 3-4 cycles if you haven’t conceived then make an appointment with a specialist(that’s a year since actively trying). Until then put him on vitamins and you too if you’re not already. And I recommend clear blue ovulation tests bc it’s very accurate if you do it from the instructions. And have sex every other day in ovulation week.

We tried for around 10 months after our miscarriage and I spoke to the doctors about fertility testing. The nurse was so sympathetic of our situation so she tried to refer us at that point but they came back and said she needed to resubmit once we'd been trying for 1 year. Fundly enough the weekend before our first appointment, we found out we were pregnant so we never did find out if there was something making it difficult. We used ovulation tests every month and hit the timing right but it still took so long.

Timing can be right but think about everything that goes into getting pregnant. Your egg has to JUMP from ovary to fallopian tube (they’re not connected) and then get fertilized with sperm. And then nestle into your uterus. It’s a lot of work for microscopic cells! Give yourself a minute to breathe and stay positive❤️
