Stupid question?? Sweeps

Incognito cause feel stupid asking such a daft question but please can anyone explain how a midwife can do a membrane sweep with their finger and reach the cervix etc but I’m told when you have sex a penis can’t reach your cervix and hurt the baby…. It makes no sense to me! Surely a penis is longer than a finger?! 🤣🤣🤣 someone tell me I’m not the only one wondering this

During sexual arousal, your cervix should move backwards to accommodate a penis. It is very possible for the penis to reach the cervix, this can cause pain and bleeding but won't hurt the baby.

Because their full hand goes in so that their fingers can reach the cervix, which when you're not expecting it, is really rather eye watering 😳

@Kryssi they’re full hand?! 😱

@Charlotte I didn’t have full hands 😂 but it is pretty uncomfortable. Good time to practise your breathing 😅 x

@Charlotte I can only speak about the midwife that performed my sweeps in my first pregnancy, it may be different for everyone! But, in order for her fingers to actually get to my cervix to perform the sweep, (forgive me for the description but) she was knuckle deep in my vagina with her thumb resting on the outside. So yeah basically her whole hand was in there but just two fingers actually reached the cervix.

I never had a full hand and I had 3 sweeps ! 🤭

Exactly what Kryssi said! You don’t realise how deep they are until they’re doing it 😂 my husband said my face said it all!!! Just be prepared to be u comfortable and breath!!!
