Contraception?

Only ever tried the pill and it was awful, put me in such a bad mood all the time to the point even my managers at work had something to say😅looking for people’s experiences/advice on other contraceptives? What would you recommend?

We use condoms. When used effectively and correctly they’ve been perfect. No hormone problems, no implants and no irritation.

@Lauren we do but there’s always that constant anxiety of what if😅

We do too but my sons almost 2 and it’s been effective to far so I’m just praying lmao no birth control is 100 % anyways so it’s all the fact of using them correctly and praying you did it right lol. It took us a few because we had never used them until after our son was born. But in all honesty I’d choose condoms over any birth control I can’t do the hormones, or the mood swings, the depression and weight gain.

Copper IUD. I want one but have yet to pull the trigger

@Lauren see the pill is a no go, I’m terrified of needles plus have heard terrible things about the depo injections😂and the idea of a foreign object floating around my body freaks me out so no good options

@Willow scared of the side effects, apparently it can damage the womb and can cause infections and in rarer cases cause ectopic pregnancy if it is not placed correctly

Yes and it can also make you infertile In certain cases. So I don’t do any of that. I’ll stick to my condoms and hopefully no more babies for a year or so

I did the IUD twice and loved it. I also did the progesterone only pill which can have a different effect than a regular pill.

I had implanon then nexplanon ( both implants) I loved them both. Weight was good, Hormones were regulated and my scar is the size of a freckle. I could always feel it if I needed reassurance & I still was attracted and fond of my man even after I took it out twice😂 .

My mental health crashes with pills, and the side effects of the iud/arm inserted one/depo shot freak me out.. I used the nuvaring for a while and that one was great, if you're good at tracking timing on it. After the birth of our son, we used a spermicide and that was our favorite. It's basically like lube you insert with a tampon tube. Kills the sperm before it reaches your cervix. If used exactly perfect it's similarly effective as condoms just without the tear risk, and without feeling the condom during sex.

I know it’s not 100% and I understand there is still a risk, but my husband and I have used natural family planning (period tracker app, ovulation tracking, pull out method) and only got pregnant when trying to. But honestly my periods are super regular and consistent so it is easier for me than some people.

The NuvaRing was great for me! I got Nexolanon put in two weeks after birth and it hasn’t been bad

@Willow mine got embedded in my uterus after only 1.5 years 🙃

@Cloe would definitely recommend this is what I’m going back to when my daughter is born i have a bad history with hormonal contraception so copper coil worked the best for me for 2 years definitely aware of ectopic pregnancy and complications it can cause when I get it back in you are able to ring up and get a screening/ultrasound or a speculum check if you’re worried about it’s placing or anything weird you’re feeling down there

Also I don’t know if you’re in a relationship so you don’t really want to wait but I’m going to wait 6m to 1 year to get back on it just to let my postpartum body rest and heal before putting the iud in as it’s cramps when first inserted can really hurt but gradually get better

Honestly I’ve hated everything but the iud. Yea I bled for a few months (super lightly) and it was annoying but worth it. Now it’s like nothing at all and I’m not pregnant lol

@Sam this is how I got pregnant

@Mckenna ummmm what did you do, how did you know? Are you okay?

@Josie I understand that can happen. I should have added that although we aren’t trying we are ok if it happened.

@Sam that’s great! I was definitely in that mindset when I got pregnant too, after experiencing pregnancy I have changed my mind haha. I definitely need to be more than ready for another x
