Mini pill

What has been your experience with the mini pill? 3 weeks PP - need to figure out contraceptive. Was thinking about IUD but may be leaning more toward pill. Want something I can easily stop when I’m ttc again

I started on Micronor and loved it. I felt great, had a higher sex drive, and didn't feel any negative side effects. Then my drug plan switched me to Movisse. It's supposed to be the same thing, but I felt awful on it - depressed mood, low sex drive, just overall crappy.

@Amanda how long were you on both of them for? Do you remember how long it took for the side effects to kick in? I can’t remember how it was when I started the combo pill 12+ years ago. Any issue with your milk supply (if you’re pumping/bf)?

I was on Micronor for about 6 months, and then Movisse for 7 years. If I went back on it, I'd fight with my drug company for the name brand instead, I just kind of gave up after fighting with my doctor about it. The side effects on Movisse came within the first month. I decided not to return to the mini pill because we want to have another baby and my midwife suggested staying away from hormonal contraceptives if we want to try sooner rather than later. But I was told by my doctor that issues with milk supply would be unlikely but not impossible, if I did decide to take it.

I would get a copper IUD

@Willow why do you say that/what has been your experience if you had it?

It’s hormone free so you can get pregnant the day after you take it out. I want to get one but my husband doesn’t want me on birth control so I’m respecting his wishes but based on how hormonal BC hijacks peoples bodies I wouldn’t risk it

I would recommend the hormonal coil (Mirena is one). Hardly any systemic effect as it works locally on the cervix. I'm 7 weeks PP and had my third one inserted on Friday! You can get pregnant as soon as it comes out as it doesn't work systemically. It can also work up to 8 years now I'm told. Bit more invasive than the mini pill but mini pill gave me bleeds all the time so didn't work for me.

Zoely BCP! It’s the newest and most natural one and I felt great on it! It’s natural estrogen not synthetic. Not sure where you are, it’s European and it’s recommended for those who can afford it in Australia

I was on the pill but then I got pregnant because I forgot to take it sometimes. I think when you’re busy with a baby you’re gonna forget to take it so it might not be as effective. Also if you’re sick and vomit or have diarrhea, the pill won’t be as effective. But the good thing about the pill was that it regulated my periods

I was on the combined before! Everything was great. PP they put me on the mini pill. My periods were all over the shop and drove me insane. I tried to go back on the combined but it made me feel ill, dizzy etc. So I stuck it out for 6 months on the mini and then I put myself back on the combined at 6 months PP amd been okay ever since x
