Heart-shaped Uterus

I went in for my viability sound yesterday at 8 weeks pregnant. Without going into too much detail and spiraling again, I learned that I have a bicornuate uterus and that the pregnancy might not be viable. This discovery of a heart-shaped uterus also means that my future ability to carry to term is likely extremely limited. Feeling like all the hope has been sucked out of me while also trying desperately to stay positive. I wondered if there was anyone else out here with this condition and what your experience has been.

Hi Emily- hopefully this makes you feel a little better. I have a bicornuate uterus (discovered years ago). Since then I’ve given birth to my toddler who is perfectly healthy and made it to full term. Also currently pregnant with my second (10weeks). When I found out about the bicornuate uterus I also spiraled and went down an internet rabbit hole which was the worst thing to do! It scared me to death and made me believe I’d never be able to have children. I then met with an OB and they gave me much more accurate info I’m not sure who told you that your future ability to carry to term is extremely limited. That’s not true. Yes , you’re more at risk of preterm labor- but then so are manyyy other conditions and more likely than not, people carry to term with a bicornuate uterus. I am also a labor and delivery nurse and although we don’t get many patients with a bicornuate uterus (we’re just so special), all the patients we’ve gotten so far have had uncomplicated, full term pregnancies!
