How do you preserve future chances?

I’m doing my first round of IVF but already feel anxious about future plans. I want 2 kids but don’t want to have them immediately back to back as I’ll need time. I have this round covered by heath care but i want to have as many eggs or embryos in the freezer now rather than go through this process again in 2-3 years when I’m older and egg quality will be lower. Does anyone else think about this? What did you do?

Hi! Good luck with this round, I hope you get a lot of eggs/embryos 🙏🏼 Everyone is different and responds differently. My clinic told me to have 2-3 euploid embryo per one child I want to have. My first round we got 2 euploid, but because I want more than 1, I decided to do another round right away to try to get more. the second round we got 5! So now they’re all preserved and we can use them when we’re ready. But I have friends who got 5-7 euploid on their first round! Which is a great number if you want 2-3 kids! Good luck! I hope it works out well and you get your beautiful embryos 💕

My only advice after going though 2 cycles and going into the third one in a few months, take it one step at a time. There’s not much you can do other than take supplements, try not to stress, eat well, go for walks. This process is a rollercoaster and the best we can do, although very hard, is manage our own expectations. I think we all come in hoping that the first cycle works and we get a bunch of normal embryos, but the reality is that might not happen and it’s heartbreaking when it doesn’t, so one step at a time.

Honestly, it’s a normal thought but I would focus on the now and see how things go, this process is a massive rollercoaster and you might get lucky you might not. Don’t meant to put you off, just being realistic and you just have to try and focus on the now as otherwise you will drive yourself crazy, look after yourself and best of luck for this cycle, hope you get loads of embryos and manage to have as many kids as you would like

@Sel that’s amazing! My husband and I discussed whether we do another round of collection before transferring any embryos but it’s not covered by my insurance and I worry my clinic won’t allow me to do it privately in the middle of this round (which is covered). Of course the dream is to get lots of embryos in this round and not have to think about it! My clinic doesn’t offer PGT testing either.

@Carmen very true. I don’t want to be focusing on something so far in the future, I want to be present and focus on the here and now. It’s just so hard not to panic about the future and try to forward plan! The thought of many more years of this hell just sucks.

@Ana thank you so much. I hope so too! 🤞🏽🤞🏽🤞🏽

I would bank 3 euploids per child before going to transfer (more if you aren’t testing and you’d want to calculate how many by how many are typically normal in your age group). You could always get there in less but it’s easier to do retrievals now than down the line with a child for a 2nd. It took us 5 tested embryos to get our 2 kids.
