Postpartum bleeding?

I’m 5 months post partum and I am on the mini pill but I bleed every 2 weeks. I’ve been to the doctors multiple times and they just say it’s normal. I went back recently and I had a smear test and then they referred me to the hospital eventhough my results haven’t come back yet. Sometimes my bleeding stops for a day and then it starts again. I’m getting quite fed up and it is affecting me. I know you do bleed after giving birth but surely this isn’t normal. I am considering coming off the pill If you’re on the pill do you bleed every 2 weeks. If you are not on the pill is your bleeding just once a month like a normal period?

I went on the minipill after my first baby and (after the initial post-birth bleeding stopped) didn't bleed at all until I came off it after 11 months. Definitely keep pushing for answers. Have they referred you for a scan? Done a blood test? Gynea referral?

@Suzie I didn’t go on the bill until the post birth bleeding had stopped and then waited until I had a period as well. Before I had my smear test the doctor just told me she would refer me to the gynaecologist. That’s the only thing that I had had done in the smear. I don’t know if it’s just better to come off it and see if that sorts anything out

@Katie you shouldn't have to put up with bleeding like that though. I do think if they referred you to gynea the first thing they'd say is to come off the pill and see if things settle. I would also ask to speak go a different GP. Took me a few goes to find one that listened/seemed to want to help when I had issues after coming off the pill last year.

Hey I had the exact same! I ended up coming off of the mini pill as it was so mentally draining having periods every 2 weeks and it just made me feel so so nauseous. This went on for about 3 months and my dr just kept saying it will take a while to regulate etc. I’ve been off for 3 months now and I’m completely back to normal and just tracking using flo. Ibe been trying to get an app at sandyford for the implant but it’s just impossible to get one. A few friends using the patch and said it’s fab so I’m considering going on to that to try instead xx

@Lucy did you talk to your gp about coming off it or did you just come off? I’m thinking about coming off as it’s very mentally draining and I’ve got to spend more on pads etc than I really should be it’s so annoying. Now I just feel like I can’t relax as I’m always wondering if I’m just gunna start bleeding x

@Katie no my dr suggested I stick with it until 6 months but I just couldn’t do it. It wasn’t as if it was light period either I was having heavy full blown periods and having a week or 2 before it all started again and I stopped taking it and within the next couple weeks I went back to a normal cycle. Personally I rhink it sounds you’re better coming off and trying something else but it’s totally your decision! I’ve heard a lot of people mention same issues with the mini pill so it seems pretty common it not agreeing with people xx

@Lucy yeah mine are full periods or sometimes I will have it for 3 days then it stops for a day then it starts again but when it starts again it’s really heavy. I think I’m just going to stop taking it, hopefully that sorts it all out!

@Kira yeah I’ve had the doctor and a nurse tell me it’s normal to be bleeding every 2 weeks but surely it isn’t normal. Definitely going to stop taking it though
