Second Baby Nerves

Second-time Mamas: did it ever really hit you that you’d be having a second baby, and you’d have to do the newborn stage all over again? I’m 38 weeks pregnant so could have my baby any day now, but still can’t quite get my head around it… I’m just too busy with my toddler to stop and fully comprehend what I’ve let myself in for! Caveat: I’m so grateful for this baby, but just thought I’d feel more prepared by now!

Yeah I feel the same ! Nervous about splitting myself between two children, my eldest is 2 and she still needs me a lot. And I remember how intense the newborn stage was.

In my mind , I always wanted to have 2 children . Even through my pregnancy I said I’d do this again and my labour was pretty straight forward on the whole , not enough to put me off having another . However , I am 9 weeks into motherhood and I’m finding it hard . I’m so tired all the time and the crying really gets on me . When does it get easier ? Honestly, if I found out I was pregnant again I would cry . I look at people with two children and I take my hat off to them . I love my baby but wow I also love my sleep and sanity ! Haha

@Agata when does the newborn stage get easier ?? Currently in the thick of it !

My first is 14 months, and I'm due with #2 in a few weeks. I feel ready for the newborn but not ready to split my time from my daughter. She is still a baby and needs me too.

@Lianne hang in there! It gets better. I would say around 3 or 4 months it felt better for me and increasingly gets better especially once they sleep through the night it’s gonna all be much easier to have your time to sleep! I felt the same as you, 9 weeks is in the thick of it all to blur your thoughts. but I’m pregnant again and not as worried this time around cause I just need to remind myself to hang in there and it will eventually be easier and you figure out what works better to get through the sleep issues.

@Katie Are there any coping strategies that you’ve used that get you through the first few months?
