AMH levels 🥴

My clinician has just put through our referral for a fertility clinic. The clinic is meant to respond within 3 weeks, then it’s our first consultation directly with them 🙌 However today she discussed my AMH level with me - I’m very new to IVF so had no idea what this meant. I’m 28 (29 in sept) and my level is 5.7 pmol/l. Apparently this is very low and after a quick google it’s the level of a woman 6-10 years older than me! 🫠 What does this actually mean for my treatment?? Has anyone else experienced this low of a number and still been able to conceive? Trying not to freak out slightly!

For the AMH levels, its just stating that low egg reserve. You can still complete IVF, you just may not retrieve many eggs during the retrieval. Honestly, all you really need is 1 egg for ivf to work so I wouldn't be bummed out about it, there is still high hopes for you.

AMH is a proxy for ovarian reserves, 5.7 pmol/l is quite low, especially for your age. It doesn't necessarily say anything about egg quality though (which might be in your favour seeing that you're still young). They might suggest that you do a couple of rounds of IVF to retrieve more eggs if needed, but it's all about how you'll respond to the stimulation. IVF is the best option!

Hi Hannah, I have a low AMH (2.2 at testing back in 2020/2021 aged 36). It did mean that I only got low numbers of maturing follicles and therefore eggs. Thankfully this can sometimes play in favour of egg quality. Everyone responds differently and even though it can be hard, it’s best just to focus on where you are at each stage. Wishing you all the best for your IVF treatment. Xx

I had low AMH cause I’m older . Retrieved 6 eggs 5 mature and 3 made it . After testing we had 2 normal and my daughter is 9 months 😁😁and our boy embryo is in freezer for the next transfer when we decide to do that . Miracles happen girl don’t give up . Think positive . Praying for you honey

My AMH was 5.1 when I was 32 which is pretty low - I was tested again recently at 34 and it had gone up to 6.3 - which was unexpected albeit still on the lower end of normal! I’ve struggled to conceive naturally and although I’ve got low ovarian reserve, the doctors have said there is no reason why I shouldn’t be conceiving naturally (as tests have come back good). So we’re going ahead with our first round of IVF next month. The doctors think I have as good a chance as anyone because my egg quality may be good, and as the other ladies have said, it just takes one good egg. I understand your concern but there’s definitely options ☺️ xx

I did AMH test in 2022 it was 0.983 I was 27 so doctors made me hopeless but Allah is great got pregnant without medication

I have low AMH of 3.1 last year when I was 31. Doctors told me I had less than 10% chance of IVF working however I now have a 5 week old little girl just remember it only takes one egg and the AMH level doesn’t indicate the egg quality x

My amh was 1.2 and I was also told my chances of successful pregnancy via ivf was very low. We went ahead though and collected 2 eggs, only 1 mature enough for fertilisation. We did a fresh transfer and I’m now 29 weeks pregnant. All the best with your journey ❤️
