New to the world of Prolactin

Hi girls, I am very new to this world of having very high prolactin and trying to learn all I can. I fell pregnant in September last year but unfortunately our baby stopped growing at 11+5, weeks. We found out at the 12 week scan and had to have a surgical management for a missed miscarriage. Since then we have been TTC for 5 months but I know something is off (woman’s instinct). I have had two VERY high prolactin results (744miu/l in April and 968miu/l this month). My boobs hurt like hell every month just before my period. I have a very regular cycle, ovulate every month and have no other symptoms. I guess I wanted to ask if anyone has any good advice to get me started, any good articles or pages to learn? Should I push to see an endocrinologist as soon as possible?

Hi Kate I have been having very high prolactin results for the past few years. I got referred to Endo through my gynae consultant. I would push to get referred to Endo as soon as you can. I was taking Cabergoline for 1 year and levels dropped dramatically. I had to stop when I went onto Clomid & Letrozole. But recently had IVF & after some tests my prolactin levels had shot back up, Dr advised take again to help bring my levels back down, in the hope for a successful pregnancy. Hope this helps!

Thanks Sarah! I got into an Endo yesterday who has scheduled an MRI, but he has suggested that regardless of the MRI results he will prescribe cabergoline to bring my levels down. Fingers and toes crossed for you! It unfortunately feels like an area that doctors don’t know a great deal about, so I’m learning a lot as I go! X

I think it’s something that not many people are aware of at all! Hopfully you’ll have some answers soon & you’ll see a difference with the Cabergoline. Best of Luck to you ☺️
