Where to even start?

Hi ladies, I am hoping someone can give me some words of wisdom, me and my partner have just decided we are going to start trying for baby #2, our first was an accidental pregnancy so we have never actually tried to conceive. I don’t even know where to start? Does anyone have any advice on things such as when to take ovulation tests etc? Any pearls of wisdom would be hugely appreciated x

I would suggest you get an app to help track your cycle and ovulation. I use Flo. It also depends how long your cycle is, for example, if your cycle is 28 days, you are likely to ovulate around day 14, so I would start testing from day 11 and record the results in the app.

@Gillian thank you. I currently use period diary so would you say best to start testing a few days before it says I’m due to ovulate on there? I usually have quite regular cycles but the last couple of months they have gone a bit haywire !! X

If they are regular then it's definitely easier to track. I'd suggest maybe 4 or 5 days before it says you're going to ovulate. X

Ovulation tests identify the rise in hormones (known as an LH surge or hitting your peak) just before you release an egg, so you know when you should have sex to get pregnant. You can get the strips online in bulk fairly cheap, id recommend testing twice a day so you dont miss your peak. If the test line is as dark or darker than the control line then youd be at your peak and should have sex. If test line is not as dark against the control line then keep testing until you hit your peak. I usually start testing day after my period and test morning and early evening to ensure i dont miss my peak (when the test line is as dark or darker than control line). It usually takes a few days after my period to get to that point. Once you hit your peak id have sex for 2-3 days in a row to ensure you give yourself the best chance ☺️

I also recommend the premom app for scanning your test strips in makes it easier to track. Most people recommend you BD every other day and then as above, 3 days in a row from when you get a peak. This is basically the SMEP method you can look up which I found very successful.
