IVF

I just had a canceled IVF. The Stimulation did not work. I only had 5 very small follicles on one ovary and 1 dominant follicle in the other ovary. I have been trying for 5 years now. I am so just feeling so sad. The doctor said to just take the trigger shot and try naturally since we have one mature follicle. I am just feeling sad and frustrated.

This same thing happened to me! Was this your first cycle?

This almost happened to us.. we didn’t let it deter us and insisted on going ahead with egg collection and are 38 weeks now x

I’m really sorry. The disappointment of having a cycle cancelled so early in the process must be crushing. It’s still a positive thing that you have one mature follicle though, so try to focus on that. I dunno if this applies to your situation, but I’m hearing a lot of positive things about mini or gentle IVF for some (often older) women. Instead of trying to force your body to produce a shit-ton of eggs, it’s about focusing on producing one good one each month. If you are still ovulating and having regular periods, it might be something to look into.

@Makayla yes this was my first cycle. What did you do after the fact? Did you try again?

@Carol oh really? I didn’t even think it was an option. I guess I should try harder in advocating for myself

@Sharon hmm interesting. What does then entail doing multiple cycle of stims and freezing?

I assume so. But you can often buy multi-cycle packages.

Unfortunately I don’t have a success story as I had 3 cycles where this happened. In two of the cycles, we did do the retrieval with only 1 dominant follicle. In one cycle, we canceled the retrieval because I actually didn’t have any follicles that got to the right size. I have diminished ovarian reserve and am considered a poor responder to medications. The cycles that worked bests for me was with clomid, gonal and cetrotide + pregnyl trigger (I believe this is considered mini/mild stim IVF). The cycle that didn’t work at all was a microdose Lupron flare protocol.

And did you do estrogen priming during the cycle before your retrieval cycle? That can help the follicles grow all together instead of at different rates.

So sorry this has happened to you! This also happened to me and they increased my dosage after day 5 and it improved a lot. I stayed on stims for 17 days in the end which then resulted in me having to have a FET instead of fresh but they still got 9 embryos, stay positive there is still hope out there 💜

This did happen to me also, I had 3 small follicles and one was abnormal shape so abandoned the cycle, was so disappoint but I started again 2 months later on a higher does and got pregnant with the 1st fresh transfer x
