Contraception

Which one stops you from monthly bleeding, if any? I read the NHS guide, but the info isn't enough for me. What are pros and cons?

I’m on the mini pill. You take it every day with no break and don’t bleed. You only bleed if you fancy having a period and stop your pill. It’s only progesterone as well which helps with the ole hormones 🤣

It really varies from person to person unfortunately. When I first got the implant at 16 it stopped my.periods for a year, but hasn't stopped them since (I'm now 29!), but a few of my friends had it and never stopped, someone else hasn't had a period since she started it 4 years ago 🤷‍♀️ I've heard similar stories with the pill as well

My friends have implant and most of them do not have periods, rest have spotting every now and then. I got my implant 3 weeks ago and I just had period for 10 days 😫😫😫😫 my sister has injection every 3 months and she doesn’t have periods but I believe for everyone is different

I’m on the implant had it fitted about 5 weeks ago and I’m currently 10 weeks pp and already on my second period 🙄 only stopped bleeding for like a week then started again x

I take Desogestrel pill, never used to have a period when took it previously but since having my little one and starting to take it again I now get a period each month 🤷‍♀️ x

The combined pill (oestrogen and progesterone) when taken continuously will mean you do not have a bleed each month. Or you can choose to have a 7 day break and time your period when it's convenient. However, there is increased risk of blood clots. I took this for roughly fifteen years with no issue. The mini-pill/implant/injection/mirena coil all contain only progesterone and people have mixed results regarding their periods! Many will not have a period but personally I had very irregular periods on it, and sometimes can cause heavier bleeding (particularly the coil). The mini pill and combined pill both have small increased risk of breast cancer. Combined pill is protective against ovarian cancer. Most GP surgeries have staff trained specifically in contraception advice, or sexual health clinics are brill for this!

I used to take desogestrel pill which is one where you don't take a break and I didn't have a period on that so will be continuing with this method. Apparently it doesn't affect milk supply either which is good as some methods can do
