What y’all think about making the placenta into pills ? Has anybody done that ? Are the benefits a fact ? Or it’s just something new people came out with

I've done decent research on this and yes it does have a ton of nutrients but honestly you can probably get the same from eating beef liver. I just don't know if it's worth it, especially since your body can get similar benefits from eating whole animal foods like steak etc. I'm still on the fence about it but just feel like it one extra thing to have to think about after baby comes and I'm not sure if it's worth it for me

They've disproven that there's actually any real benefits to consuming it, and just eating properly will replenish anything your body needs. Definitely not necessary. My biologist husband thoroughly looked into this for me. I wouldn't be wasting my money

The thing is we are one of the few species that doesn't consume afterbirth... but that's because we live in a nutrient dense society that does not require us to not waste any resource. Wild animals who don't know where their next meal comes from can't afford to waste any organ meat.

Pretty sure there aren’t any peer reviews providing substantial evidence in support of this.

I wouldn’t do it only because I know the placenta filters out all the toxins in our food like plastic and metals to protect baby so I didn’t even think twice about opting out of this. I think maybe back when our world wasn’t so processed and food wasn’t so poisonous I would have.

🤢 No thanks. It's there to filter out bacteria, viruses, pollutants and other nasty things. Quite a lot of placentas have been found to contain micro plastics!! I'd rather not eat that! Plus have you ever seen one!? Bleh! I get that it's a natural thing, a lot of mammals do it but they don't use plastic and metals daily, and it's to stop predators smelling the blood/tissue and coming to munch them while they're at their most vulnerable.

@Elizabeth hi there, I don't think you can compare multi vitamins to organ meat/placenta! These organs have a lot more bioavailable nutrients than multi vitamins (as in your body more easily and readily absorbs the nutrient whereas same cannot be said about multi vitamins). It's still good to take quality vitamins but the don't compare to eating real nutrient dense foods with the same vitamins

@Katie if you're using any type of plastic item then there is going to be plastic in your body! Even preserved foods in plastic containers. That includes sea salt and fish too, sadly as they all contain plastic from the ocean. Cow placenta sells for thousands of dollars online and in restaurants due to how nutrient rich they are, so it def does have benefits but not sure if it's worth all the effort to encapsulate them and eat them

@Apryl this isn't very sound research, it's basing it off one mom who had group B strep which causes harm to her. Probably best not to eat a placenta if you have chronic underlying health issues or viruses but during the encapsulation process all the bacteria and viruses are killed (if dehydrated properly). Also Mayo Clinic isn't the best resource out there, very textbook information that doesn't dig deep enough.

@Elizabeth Oh it’s already a thing. Those weird hippy moms who make menstrual teas with their blood 🤢
